Woodbury Citizens' Academy Mission & Purpose

Mission

To expand the knowledge of our citizens in a way that encourages more involvement in our community. Woodbury Citizens will have an understanding of how local public, private and nonprofit sectors work in their respective areas, as well as in unison, to make the City of Woodbury a positive place to reside.

Participation

The Woodbury Citizen’s Academy will offer spots to Woodbury citizens on a first come first serve basis beginning with Woodbury residents.  If there is still space available, we will look at opening registration to non-residents with a tie to the community.  Applications will be received via mail or email. The Woodbury Citizen’s Academy will accept no more than 25 persons for the program.  We welcome residents of all races, religions and national origins who demonstrate an interest in and commitment to voluntarism.  Member participants are expected to attend all sessions in order to receive a certificate of completion.  Some absences are excusable in case of emergency.  Member participants are expected to sign a waiver and a photo release form.

Timeline

Ten weekly sessions will begin on Monday, February 6, 2012 and will end on Monday, April 23, 2012.  This last session will be a special graduation ceremony and keynote speaker on volunteerism. We will provide graduates with information as to how they can best serve in our community.
