The Woodbury Citizens’ Academy is an eight-week program that engages citizens in their community through knowledge and volunteerism.
Sponsored by the Woodbury Community Foundation, the City of Woodbury and the Woodbury Lions Club.
Registration for the 2018 program is open and we are accepting inquiries for participation. For more information, send an e-mail to Claudia Millington, Citizens’ Academy volunteer program chair, at email@example.com.
The program is free and registration is accepted on a first come, first served basis. Priority is given to those who live or work in Woodbury. We are encouraging participants to get involved philanthropically by making a voluntary gift of $50 to help offset the cost of the program.
The Citizens’ Academy develops future leaders who are so important to assuring a strong, robust Woodbury well into the future. It expands the knowledge of our citizens in a way that encourages more involvement in our community. Planned by a team of community members, each weekly session is focused on a different topic, including:
- Economic Development
- Woodbury History
- Cultural Competency and Diversity
- Public Safety
- Media and Communications
- City Works
Each session provides front line exposure to how local public, private and nonprofit sectors work in their respective areas, as well as how, in unison, they make Woodbury an exceptional place to live and work.
Graduates of the Citizens Academy come away with greater community engagement, inspired volunteerism, and encouragement of philanthropy throughout our city.
Through 2016, more than 160 people have Graduated from the Academy.
