Registration for 2020 Citizens Academy Begins Sept 15

Learn more about the inner-workings of the City of Woodbury at the Woodbury Citizens’ Academy 2020.

Now in its 11th year, this program of the Woodbury Community Foundation offers an 8-week course for community members to develop into more informed and engaged citizens. The Citizens’ Academy develops future leaders who are so important to ensuring a strong, robust Woodbury well into the future. It expands the knowledge of our citizens in a way that encourages more involvement in our community.

Planned by a team of community members, each weekly session is focused on a different topic, including: government, economic development, Woodbury history, cultural competency and diversity, public safety, media and communications, city works, education and volunteerism

“Each session provides front line exposure to how local public, private and nonprofit sectors work in their respective areas, as well as how, in unison, they make Woodbury an exceptional place to live and work,” says Claudia Millington, chair of the Citizen’s Academy. “Through 2019, over 200 people have graduated from the Academy. Graduates of the Citizens Academy come away with greater community engagement, inspired volunteerism, and encouragement of philanthropy throughout our city.”

The 2020 Citizen’s Academy runs on Thursdays for 8-weeks starting February 6, 2020 from 6:30-9:00pm. Registration begins September 15. If you are interested in attending the next session, please send an e-mail to Claudia Millington, Citizens’ Academy volunteer program chair, at claudiamillington@gmail.com or call 651.587.7805.

The program is $50 and registration is accepted on a first come, first served basis. Priority is given to those who live or work in Woodbury. Special thanks to the City of Woodbury and the Woodbury Lions Club for their support of the program. For more information, Click Here
