Three local organizations (The Grove United Methodist Church, League of Women Voters – Woodbury Cottage Grove Area (LWV-WCGA), and Braver Angels) have partnered together to co-host a community event on October 5th.

Members of The Grove had been seeing and experiencing tension within the community, among individuals and families. Their vision was to cultivate common ground ahead of the upcoming election. They reached out to LWV-WCGA, whose goals are to empower voters and provide information on the mechanics of free, fair, safe, and secure voting. They also reached out to Braver Angels, whose mission includes equipping Americans to practice courageous citizenship by acknowledging political differences through skill building, conversation, and collaboration. Each organization will bring their expertise to this community event.

“Engaging in Courageous Citizenship: Finding Community Across Our Differences Before and After Elections” will be a 90-minute interactive event. Speaker Bill Doherty, co-founder of Braver Angels and emeritus professor in the Department of Family Social Science at the University of Minnesota, will guide participants in exploring sources of today’s polarization and learning skills for respectful dialogue and finding common ground. Attendees will also receive informational material from LWV-WCGA on voting in Minnesota.
